Guided Drift Diving in Hurghada: Enjoy the Reef with the Current
Guided drift diving in Hurghada offers a different way to enjoy the reef when conditions are suitable. Instead of expecting to return to the same entry point, the dive follows an agreed route with the movement of the water and a planned exit. Your experience and the conditions determine whether it is a good choice.
What is different about a guided drift dive?
A drift dive needs a clear plan for the entry, underwater route, group communication and exit. Listen carefully to the briefing and ask about anything unfamiliar before entering the water.
The experience is not about chasing a strong current. A suitable drift can let you observe the reef as the scenery changes, but conditions vary and the dive must remain within your training and comfort.
Your instructor explains how the group will stay together and how the boat support will work. Follow that plan rather than improvising a separate route or exit.
Who is guided drift diving in Hurghada suitable for?
Tell us your qualification, recent diving, approximate dive count and any previous drift experience. Confidence with buoyancy, buddy awareness and responding to a briefing matters as well as the certification you hold.
We do not assume that every qualified diver is ready for every drift. Your instructor may recommend suitable reef dives first or suggest training if the proposed experience goes beyond what you have learned.
If you are nervous or prefer another type of dive, say so. You should never feel that you have to join a drift to keep up with other guests.
Guided drift diving: briefings and boat support
Our diving boat has a Zodiac available to support drift dives and emergency arrangements where appropriate. The crew and instructors decide how it is used for the conditions and planned dive.
Listen to the instructions for entering, keeping together and leaving the water. Make sure you understand the signals and what to do if the planned arrangement changes. Ask the instructor to explain again if something is unclear.
These details are taught and briefed in person. A webpage cannot replace the practical instruction needed for unfamiliar entries, signalling equipment or drift procedures.
Enjoy the reef while staying with your group
Maintain awareness of your buddy and instructor as well as the scenery. Keep your equipment secure and control your buoyancy so you can observe without touching or holding the reef.
Do not break away to follow an animal or photograph. The agreed group plan is more important than getting a particular shot. If something is uncomfortable, communicate with your instructor using the signals from the briefing.
Our diving safety advice explains the importance of speaking up and staying within your experience. For a different perspective on the surroundings, explore our coral reef guide.
Drift diving in Hurghada: guided dive or course?
These are different bookings. A suitable guided drift is an experience for appropriately prepared divers; the PADI Drift Diver course is training in the skills and planning involved.
If you want to learn specifically about drift diving, tell us before booking so we can discuss the course. Do not assume that joining a guided dive provides a qualification or covers all the training for future drift conditions.
Make time for several days of diving
Our daily diving packages include two guided dives per day. Five consecutive days cost £325 for one diver, or £300 per person for two divers booking together. Air, weights, boat lunch and marine fees are included. Equipment hire is £100 per person for five days; dive computers are separate.
Local transfers within two kilometres of our facility are included; ask for a quote for other areas. See the current prices for other booking sizes. You can also combine diving with accommodation through our diving holidays. Tell us your qualification, last dive and dates so we can suggest a suitable plan.
