Scuba Diving Safety Advice: Confidence Starts with Care
Our scuba diving safety advice starts with one principle: safety comes first. Diving has serious risks, and problems can have severe consequences. Good preparation, suitable training and honest communication all matter when choosing how and with whom you dive.
Scuba diving safety advice starts with your operator
Choose a team that listens to you and puts care ahead of numbers. Our experienced instructors take time to understand your qualification, recent experience and confidence before deciding what is suitable.
On normal guided daily diving, we keep groups to a maximum of four qualified divers per instructor. Smaller groups make it easier to notice when someone needs help and to give that diver attention.
Discounted organised group packages use six to eight divers per instructor. We explain these arrangements before booking. Whatever the group size, a dive must remain appropriate to the divers and the conditions.
Not dived for a while? Start with a refresher
Tell us when you last dived and how comfortable you feel. A break from diving can affect familiarity with equipment and skills, even if you hold a qualification. There is no embarrassment in asking for a refresher.
Our refresher is a day based ashore, with time to practise skills and settle back into diving with a Master Instructor. When you are ready and conditions are suitable, the programme can continue with a guided dive around the local wreck. This is not an automatic progression to the Salem Express trip.
The aim is to rebuild confidence at a manageable pace. We discuss what you need before booking, rather than assuming every returning diver needs exactly the same support.
Refresher diving starts from £120 for one person. Check our current diving prices and ask us to explain your programme and inclusions.
Tell us about nerves or a problem
Please speak up if you are worried about your mask, buoyancy, equipment or any part of the dive. A concern is easier to address when your instructor knows about it. You do not need to hide a difficulty to keep up with someone else.
Have that conversation before entering the water wherever possible. During the briefing, make sure you understand the communication signals and how to let your instructor know you need help.
It is always okay to say no to a dive you are not comfortable with. If you feel uncomfortable underwater, signal your instructor so they can help you end the dive appropriately. Do not feel pressured to continue simply because other people want to.
Practical scuba diving safety advice before each trip
Dive within your training and experience, and follow the agreed briefing and plan. Shallow water does not remove the need for care. Conditions, equipment and how you feel that day all influence the decision.
Complete the required medical screening honestly and follow any requirement for medical clearance before diving. Tell the team if something has changed since your booking. Your instructor cannot replace advice from a suitable medical professional.
Take time with the equipment checks you have been taught, including your buddy checks. If something seems unfamiliar or wrong, stop and ask. A delayed dive is preferable to entering the water with an unresolved concern.
Build experience without rushing
Our shallow reef dives in Hurghada can be a good way for newly qualified divers to gain experience when conditions are suitable. Site choice remains flexible, with the needs of the group guiding the plan.
A five-day package gives you several days with the team. It is an opportunity to settle in and build familiarity, not a promise that every site or type of dive will be suitable for every diver.
Make more of your diving holiday
Our daily diving and five-day packages give qualified divers time to settle into the routine and explore a variety of sites. A five-day package includes two guided dives each day. The price is £325 for one diver, or £300 per person when two book together for five consecutive diving days.
Air, weights, boat lunch, marine fees and local transfers within two kilometres of our facility are included. Equipment hire is extra: £100 per person for five days; dive computers are separate. See our current diving prices for other group sizes and transfer areas.
If you would like accommodation too, explore our diving holidays in Hurghada. Tell us your dates, qualifications, last dive and any equipment needs, and we will help you choose a suitable plan.
Start the conversation
If you have been away from diving, feel nervous or need extra support, contact our team before booking. Tell us what is worrying you. We would much rather help you plan properly than have you arrive feeling unable to speak up.
